Hundred Hats for Helping Challenge Donation Drive

I've posted about Helping Hands for Our Children in the Chippewa Valley before, and about a week ago they posted this on their Facebook.

It loads small, I wish I could get it bigger! Basically they're already searching for donations for winter. Hats, coats, mittens, boots, snowpants.. you name it. Shauna plans her first winter gear distribution for September, with subsequent ones in October, November, and December, plus she still gets requests for gear throughout the winter. Last year she was out of hats, mittens, etc by the end of January.

This is where I come in. :)

I am holding a Hundred Hats for Helping Hands Challenge over in the Charity Knitting group I help moderate on Ravelry. I'm trying to get at least a hundred warm hats for Helping hands in sizes from baby up to adult, with special focus on school age kids.

I'm working on my third and fourth hats right now (one is knit, one is crochet, so they're going simultaneously). Here are my first two:

(Incidentally, this is Red Heart with Love Stripes yarn. I found it at the Joann Fabrics in Woodbury, MN. There is an awesome yarn selection there. :) This yarn stripes nicely, though it's basically Super Saver in feel.)

I'm making another crochet balaclava (Tiri liked hers last winter), this one in two strands of baby yarn held double to equal thick worsted. I really like the idea of a hood like this.

The knit hat I'm working on is just plain in-the-round knitted worsted light blue Super Saver, I might add some stripes in the body (still on the rib now.)

If you would be interested in contributing to this effort (they need more than hats, and if we get more than 100, awesome!!!) please comment below and I can tell you where to ship.

Nine Lines Washcloth

Hello again. How is everyone? It's going about the same here, Jerek's still in the same shape. I did have a nice weekend. It was the circuit assembly, which is a two day series of Bible talks that takes place every year, along with the District Convention (three days) and the Special Assembly Day (one day.) There were many upbuilding Bible-based talks, and it was good to see a lot of people I haven't seen in a while. As you can tell by the title of the post, though, the assembly isn't the main point of my writing to you this time. I made a washcloth last week. I used a stitch pattern that I learned last fall from a afghan block. It was called Plowed Rows, but I didn't think that name fit the washcloth. Instead I am calling it Nine Lines, because it has nine lines. (I know, ain't I creative? (-:) Here is the cloth. Not a great photo, but as good as I can do right now. And on to the pattern. I think this would be a great pattern to learn how to slip ...
