Baby Hats (Big Surprise?)

I've been slacking a bit with the knitting and crocheting. Just feeling slow, and my hands aren't as happy as they were. I think I need to have my chiro work on them again tomorrow. I can't *not* make things though, so here is what I've managed lately. This one was made mostly during my birth class. I'm thinking of keeping it, if for no other reason than that. :) Charity hat. I was going to take it to WIC, but we shall see. It might go to the Yarnology knitting group instead. These are for Fritz. I called them Diaper Bag Booties and Diaper Bag Hat. They were supposed to be a set but the hat came out rather bigger than the booties. They should both fit him eventually though. They are in the diaper bag, for those times when you encounter unexpected chilliness. Charity hat using a whole small skein I got on clearance at JoAnn's. It's very soft, but a pain to work with as most boucle yarns are. These two use scraps that I found at...

It's a boy!....

For Michelle, anyway. :) I've been knitting and crocheting for him, since her shower is in less than 2 weeks. We will see if I actually get to go, but I hope to. And if I don't, well, then I guess I'll give her the gifts another time. Here is what I have made for her so far: This is Faux-isle Baby Hat I am making mitts to match it, and will be writing the pattern up here when I get them both done since it's easy and cute. I have one mitt done now, and half of the second one. I also have these Pistachio Mitts made, I just crocheted these up one day at my aunt's house when the yarn wasn't behaving for what I had originally planned to make with it. These are made with 100% organically grown, spun, and dyed cotton. They are super soft! And lastly we have this Soft Burp Cloth . It's a good burp cloth size when put over the shoulder. I found the pattern in a Care Wear Newsletter, I think from 2007. Very fast and easy, you work one ro...

6 Month Checkup

Tiri had her six month check-up today, she has grown so much!! She's 16 1/2 pounds now, and she's 26 inches long. She started out at 5lbs and 19 inches. Here she is not too long after birth: She also had shots today. I nursed her through them... up until the first needle went in, anyway. I always feel so bad, she stops and thinks about it for a second, and then she cries sooooo hard. I want to cry with her, but that wouldn't do her any good. At least at her next one in June she won't have any shots. :-) I finished her sunhat today while we were waiting. The pattern I found on Ravelry, it was free, which my favorite kind! Here is a pattern link: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/flared-shell-brimmed-hat This pattern seems extremely versitile. I eyeballed it to her size, which was very simple, and there are instructions in the pattern for altering the size too. I plan to make more, some for her and some for the folks on Pine Ridge Reservation. I made...

Greetings....

This blog is about something that is very popular anymore; knitting. It's also about being a mommy, charity, life, patterns, pets and other things I haven't even thought of yet. You will notice something, though. All of it, no matter what, always seems to come back to knitting, at least for me. My name is Rachel. I am married (W.A. 10-26-10) and I have a daughter born 9-5-11. We have two cats, Shani and Katy, and we are making our home in an apartment at the moment. I taught myself to knit over a span of years and even after I got the basic idea, I didn't really enjoy it. I can't tell you exactly when I started enjoying it, except it had to do with finding a pair of number eight needles and a wee patten for a Barbie doll hood. It was only in the last few years that I became passable and--dare I say??--*good* at knitting. My patience is increasing, so much so that I have something on the needles right now that I never would have considered making even two years ago. ...
