Yesterday we had a WIC appointment. Antoinette has gained a pound since she was born: her weight was 9 pounds, 8 ounces. Length measurement was slightly off, but we didn't end up redoing it. I'm 21 pounds less than I was the day before she was born! I've been knitting on a pair of slippers for  The Bridge to Hope  here in town. It's the local domestic violence shelter. I called them on Monday and they expressed interest in washcloths and slippers. I'm making these slippers,  Alice's Booties pattern . It's a piece of cake. Here is the first one. I have it seamed and ready, and have two more decrease rows for the second one and then the cuff. I *think* these are women's size 6-8 (stretchy, you know) but I'm not 100% on that. There is only one cast on number/size in the pattern, but I think it should work to adjusts the size by varying the cast on number as long as I keep it a multiple of 4. I haven't decided if I will make the next pair bigg...

Making Mittens

I am strange. Now, if you really do know me, this is a "duh" statement, but really. I am talking about something specific right now. I knit, a lot. And crochet. I make hats and scarves and various other things and I'm pretty good at it, or so I like to think. I have a big problem with one type of project though. I am not a mitten maker. It's not that I don't want to be a mitten maker. I do. I've tried I don't know how many times, and I've managed to make a few lonely single mittens. I have never made a pair, however. I keep trying though, because there is something about mittens that seems so... so... knitterly. I may finally be on the right track tonight. It is the progression of a mitten. This is the pattern,  Stashbuster Kids Charity Mittens . It uses double stranded worsted weight and size 10 needles, and the size I am making is only 24 stitches a round. That is not too bad! I don't want to put the thumb on yet, becau...

*Sigh*

It's been over a monthi since I blogged, and believe me I haven't just been resting on my laurels in that time. Tiri has teeth. I knew about one of them, the bottom front one on the left side. Last night she opens her mouth laughing, and there are two teeth in there! This explains why she tried to drive me into the witness protection program with her demeanor last week. I think she wailed more last week than she had in the entire time since she was born. We were all sick for a good share of April, and I still am, sort of. I am on 3000mg a day of Amoxacillin for a tonsil that is making trouble. I just started the pills yesterday, and I already feel somewhat better, so hopefully it will knock it out. Tiri is little wobble behind this week. She can get up on her knees, and she wants to crawl but she hasn't made the leap over into it yet. Jerek started working on the 16th, and I am alternately happy and unhappy about this. I like that he is gainfully employed, but this ...

Sure I'm 22, but......

Yesterday at Savers I bought two Barbie dolls. Yes, Barbies. I plan to make them both wardrobes and a nice drawstring bag and make two little girls on the reservation happy with their very own Barbies. Here they are: That said, I am having lots of fun! I have a dress on the needles right now (when I get it done, I plan to post the pattern) and I am researching more barbie clothes patterns. I found a site with literally over one thousand patterns for Barbie. Here is the link: http://www.stickatillbarbie.se/ I've also found quite a few other patterns. Bev's Country Cottage has a list of them, and I don't know how many other sites. The only thing I am kind of bummed out about is our printer is out of ink so I can't print any of the neat sewing ones I've seen. However, I am thinking ahead. I've bookmarked some of the ones I liked, and I have a Plan. Yes with a capital P. I have a Plan. Thrift sale season is upon us, and soon there will be the 100 Mi...
